The Heart Valve Bank Cardiac Camp

The cardiac camp took place in Vasai, Mumbai on the 30th May 2015. It was inaugurated by Mr Ramesh Sawant, the president of the Sathya Sai Seva Organisation of the Indian State of Maharshtra and Goa, by lighting a lamp exactly at 1035 am.

Dr Vijay Agarwal and his team from the Mumbai Fortis Hospital, which consisted of 5 cardiologists, 2 cardiac nurses and 2 paramedical staff, consulted 84 children that attended, out of the 94 registered.

2 children were in the last stages of their illness and were deemed beyond repair. They will probably live for 6 months to a year.

One child will need heart transplantation and he will have to wait for a donor.

40% of the children will require some kind of surgical intervention which will be particularised following further investigations which will ensue over the course of this week.

All the children and their families were provided with breakfast and lunch. On their departure, as a final token of love, they were provided with an evening tiffin.

The camp concluded with aarti of Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba which was performed by Dr Vijay Agarwal.

The actual work of saving and bettering lives will start with enhanced investigations and costly surgical interventions which will supervene. A detailed report will be provided by Dr Vijay Agarwal to Heart Valve Bank which will be published on the website. As mentioned in the last month’s report, all the investigations and operations will be free of charge, courtesy of the brotherhood of man and the fatherhood of God.
